Nar Phu and Tilicho

Nar Phu and Tilicho
For Himalayan addicts only! It is a long camping trek discovering the major section of the famous Annapurna Round and combining high peaks and passes, glaciers, remote villages, narrow canyons, lovely forests, amazing rock formations, yaks, gompas and unique Himalayan culture. Narphu valley is probably the best non tourist trekking of the Annapurna region. We will venture into this remote region of Upper Manang untouched by modernity. At Koto we turn east to discover the long time hidden valleys of Nar and Phu, with very few on-permanent winter settlements  for people of Nar and Phu, and a taste of Tibetan culture. The arrival at Phu will move your soul.

Like a medieval castle it rises almost 40m above a dusty riverbed. Steep walls eroded by relentless wind and weather protect the 30-40 basic stone houses sheltered behind, built atop one another like a vertical jigsaw puzzle. The superb monastery of Phu on top of hill is worth visiting. Crossing  high pass of Kang La (5313m) before a steep way down to Annapurna round trail till Manang. From there we turn west to go up to Tilicho lake (4612m), one of the highest lake in the world. Before going down to Jomsom,  we have another challenging pass at Mesokanto (5099m). This trek offers fantastic views of the Annapurna massif, Lamjung Himal, Manaslu, Dhaulagiri and Tilicho.
