Everest Monasteries

This is an outstanding trek, visiting the high valleys of the Khumbu Region inhabited by the Sherpa people, famous for their exceptional physical strength on the high mountains, their always smiling face and their incredible hospitality. Sherpa people are Buddhist and in most of their villages there is an ancient gompa with many paintings, statues and instruments for their rituals.

We fly from Kathmandu to Lukla and trek slowly up the Dudh Kosi Valley to the Sherpa capital, Namche Bazar, a town lying in a natural amphitheater protected from the weather. We trek further west to Thame on a quiet trail upstream the Bhote Kosi Valley and visit its ancient cliff-hugging gompa. Descending to Khumjung we can admire the high mountains of Kangtega and Thamserku and stay at the bottom of Khumbila Peak, home of the patron God of the Khumbu. From there we trek towards Phortse, Pangboche and Thengboche with tremendous views of the world highest mountains. Pangboche, with its unspoiled monastery, will be the highest point. The route returns to Lukla via Thengboche and Namche.
